• Smallmouth Bass

  Water still warm (21°C); fish deeper structure and shaded banks early and late. Crankbaits, soft plastics, and topwater at dawn work well. Expect slower midday action.

• Largemouth Bass

  Where: Slower sections of French Broad River; backwater coves and oxbows; farm ponds and small impoundments in Buncombe County.

  Early fall transition—fish weed edges and fallen timber. Spinnerbaits and soft plastics near cover. Topwater in low light.

  Caution: Verify regulations for the specific water body you're targeting.

• Trout (Rainbow, Brown, Brook)

  Where: Davidson River (Pisgah National Forest); North Fork of French Broad; Nolichucky River; Davidson River Tailwater below Pisgah Dam.

  September cooling favors afternoon fishing. Nymphs (Pheasant Tail, Hare's Ear) and small streamers work. Dry fly activity picks up as water cools further.

• Catfish (Channel, Flathead)
