Where it holds
Estuaries and lower rivers in fall; aggressive in the salt through summer.
How to know it
White gums, spots only on the upper tail lobe, and a bright silver body turning deep red in the river.
What to know
Acrobatic and willing — the salmon most likely to chase a fast lure.
The tactic
Bucktail-trolled at speed in the salt; spinners and jigs in the river.
