- Mar–Oct — March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October. Earlier in the south, later in the north.
- Where to look
- Anything in flower, especially in mass — clover, fruit blossom, borage, oregano left to bloom.
- How to know it
- Golden-brown, banded, furry thorax, and pollen packed onto the hind legs in visible baskets.
- What it does for you
- Managed and not native, but the workhorse of orchard and field pollination. A colony works within about 3 km of the hive.
- Caution
- Never spray anything, even organic, on open flowers in the middle of a sunny day.
