Gastropoda

When
Apr–Jun — April, May, June, September, October. Earlier in the south, later in the north.
Where to look
Under mulch, boards and pots; out at night and after rain.
How to know it
The silvery slime trail and ragged holes in the middle of leaves, not at the edges.
What it does — and what to do
Worst in a wet spring on the coast. Beer traps, a night patrol with a flashlight, and iron-phosphate bait all work; salt does not belong in soil.
