- May–Nov — May, June, July, August, September, October, November. Earlier in the south, later in the north.
- Where it holds
- Surf, estuaries, rips and rocky points on the Atlantic; big reservoirs and the California Delta inland.
- How to know it
- Silver with seven or eight unbroken horizontal black stripes, and a large mouth.
- What to know
- The great Atlantic gamefish. Follows bait — find the birds and the bait, and the stripers are under them.
- The tactic
- Live eels and plugs at night; metal into a blitz by day.
- Caution
- Slot limits are strict and change often; many fisheries are catch-and-release only.
